What happens during a flamenco workshop?
Every workshop follows the same structure, adapted to the formula you choose (Simple 1h, Mini Show 1h30, or Show Time 2h):
Warm-up and flamenco introduction
Your teacher welcomes the group, introduces the key elements of flamenco – compas (rhythm), palmas (clapping), braceo (arms), zapateado (footwork) – and leads a gentle warm-up. This is where the ice breaks: within five minutes, everyone is clapping along and smiling.
Learning the technique step by step
The teacher breaks down each element separately before combining them. You will work on:
- Posture and arm movements: the distinctive flamenco body position that gives the dance its powerful character
- Zapateado: the rhythmic footwork that sounds complex but follows a simple repeating pattern
- Palmas: learning to clap on the right beat – the collective sound is addictive
- Expression: flamenco is danced with the whole body, including the face. Your teacher will show you how to “look flamenco”
No previous dance experience is needed. The teacher adapts everything to the actual level of your group.
Building the choreography together
The most exciting part. Your teacher assembles all the elements into a choreography that the whole group performs together. In the Mini Show and Show Time formulas, the choreography includes formations, partner work, and a special moment for the guest of honour (the bride, the birthday person, or the CEO who did not see this coming).
Final run-through and celebration
The session ends with a full performance of the choreography to the final music track, followed by traditional jaleos (cheers and applause). This is the perfect moment for group photos in your best flamenco poses.
